CREATIVE ART PHOTOGRAPHY

What gives a professional photographer the edge? You need to evaluate the photo to see what type of editing would enhance the subject. In the printed advertisement media, the photographer uses light, angle and creative editing related to the subject.

Lets have a look at calendar photos as example for the annual church almanac.

I will publish two examples.

Remember the final print would be on paper, or "card board". The editing requires skill related to the print process.

In the next photo I chose for this client a pencil sketch result. The original photo, followed by the result.

In the following example, the colors are enhanced for card board printing. The angles is of importance to the photographer. To capture the complete image but a different angle at what the congregation member would recognize the building. Almost... as if they would say, I never saw it this way. The editing compliments the fine brickwork of the building that give its architectural features. A pencil sketch of this doesn't work!

Once again, the original photo followed by the edited.

Editing for printed photos is essential and there are various kinds of software for different tasks. Again I want to use the photo that I placed as a background to my blog.

The following edit reflects "painting a photo" or also known as Bilateral filtering. Once again the original followed by the edited.

Since I started this page, I was tempted to do a massive oil painting stitch. From my page on Stitching you would realize that the blog software don't accommodate for these massive uploads and just shrink them terribly.

To demonstrate the effect, I decided to use a regular HD photo from my Kolmanskop collection. Take note that this application is not always successful and the result has a lot to do with the photo and the subject.

Stanley's Light Ladismith.

Bilateral filtering on a night shot in bulb mode. This photo is edited for printing. A printer having only 4 cartridges cannot reproduce a original HD photo and editing relevant to printing is required. On screen the photo looks very noisy but the print is correct as the print process remove noise.

With time I'll post more on this subject and technique. Just keep in mind, some free software to do these creations may place ugly watermarks on the result.
